A relaxed and engaging introduction to pottery, perfect for beginners looking to build confidence and explore creativity. Whether you're trying something new or starting a long-term hobby, this course offers a supportive space to learn traditional handbuilding techniques dating back to 28,000 BCE. Through a mix of guided teaching and self-directed making, you’ll learn how to work with clay across different stages—building, decorating, and glazing—leaving with a collection of fully handmade pieces. Course outline: Week 1: Coiling, slab building, pinch pots Week 2: Carving, engraving, slip decoration Week 3: Nerikomi Week 4: Glazing What’s included All clay, glazes, and firings No additional costs What to bring: Short nails recommended Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty A tea towel and a plastic bag Missed classes: You may make up one session by joining another class (subject to availability) or attend a self-directed drop-in. Reminders: - Clay, aprons and tools will be provided during the class. - Fingernails should be kept short for health and safety reasons. - Please wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a bit of clay on. - Please do not wear any accessories or leave them around the studio if possible. - Please come 10 minutes prior to the start of the class, as this will allow you to sign in and get ready for class demonstration. - It is your responsibility to arrive on time for the class. Upon arriving to your class 30 minutes or later, we have the right to reject you joining the class without any refund or rescheduling. -Please check your confirmation to ensure you arrive at the correct studio to the correct class.
