  • I have a comment or inquiry. Who do I contact?
Please contact us at nam@cernamic.com first before calling. One of our admin staff will get back to you as soon as possible. Please clearly state the studio you are inquiring. Most inquiries and requests can be solved upon emails, our FAQ sections, or on our terms and condition page. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • Are student discounts available?
We currently have a discount for Goldsmiths Students and Alumni that is 10% off all our courses. To enquire please contact us with proof of enrollment or let us know who recommended you!
  • What is your exchange and cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be made in writing by email or text. You may cancel your course, classes, or workshops within 7 working days of purchase and receipt of confirmation email. If your course starts sooner than that, please get in touch as soon as possible (nam@cernamic.com). Cancellations within 7 days of the course, classes, or workshops start date will be charged 50% of the course fee. In the instance of non-attendance for the duration of a course, the full fee of said course will still be payable. Exchanges can be made within 7 days at our discretion. Of course, there are emergencies and unforeseen circumstances that will impact your attendance so our team will work with you to negotiate or rearrange the date.
  • I'm excited my first experience on pottery wheels! What do I need to prepare for my class?
Please do not wear hand accessories, or put them in your bags upon arrival. If you have long hair, it would be great to get yourself a hairband to tie your hair up. Please also take care of your items, eg umbrella and water bottles, as these will easily get lost in the studio. If possible, please trim your nails prior to the class, and wear old clothes and shoes as you might get stuck into the clay! (clay does come out of clothes). During winter, it would be a bit cold in the studio. Whilst we try our best to keep the studio warm, please prepare an extra coat or clothes to keep you warm during class.
  • I arrived at the wrong studio. What should I do?
Please check your confirmation email to ensure you arrive at the correct studio to the correct class. Whilst we will try our best to arrange for you, we have the right to reject you to join the class without any refund or rescheduling.
  • Do I need to bring anything with me to my classes? What’s provided?
You don’t need to bring anything to classes. Aprons and basic tools will be provided. For tasters, you will have several options for glazing (depends on availability), and one of the staff members will glaze them for you. For courses, during the glazing stage, Cernamic also supplies a variety of glazes for students to use to finish their pieces.
  • When I should arrive for a class?
Please come 10 minutes prior to the start of the class, as this will allow you to sign in and get ready for class demonstration. It is your responsibility to arrive on time for the class. Upon arriving to your class 30 minutes or later, we have the right to reject you joining the class without any refund or rescheduling.
  • I forgot to pick up my pots from my taster sessions, what do I do?
We can store your completed pieces for 4 weeks following your collection email. However, as we are a working studio, sadly we cannot endlessly store student's creations. If you are unable to collect in this timeframe, please let us know and we can come to another arrangement.
  • Why does my pots looks different than what I've created/samples you shown?
Please note that due to the nature of clay, results may differ from expectation, including but not limited to: - Glaze may vary from examples and are for reference only - Texture created may not shown in the final result - Pots will appear smaller from what you created from class, since clay have a 15% shrinkage - Pots may not be completely cleaned and may have small lumps of clay - Pots may be cracked or exploded We try our best to mitigate this problem but these are inevitable. Unfortunately, the class is non-refundable and we are only able to reimburse you if your work exploded.
  • Are my pots food safe?
The short answer is yes. If a comprehensive layer of glaze is covering the surface touching food, then your pots, plates, mugs and anything else you can think of are food safe. Unglazed areas are porous and can harbour bacteria so it's best to check in with one of the team at Cernamics if in doubt!
  • When will my finished fired pieces be ready?
After a taster class, you'll receive an collection email informing your pots are ready to be collected. This is usually 4-5 weeks after the class as your pieces need enough time to dry and be fired twice. Please double check if the collection email is in the spam folder as sometimes the email is in there. If you are not able to find the email passing the process time, please contact nam@ceramic.com, and state your initials, the date and studio you went to for you class so staff member can assist you.
  • What time can I collect my pots?
STOKEY POTS COLLECTION HOURS: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 2 - 6pm DEPTFORD POTS COLLECTION HOURS: Saturday & Sunday: 11am - 5pm *Please refer to your collection email for the most updated collection hours. Unfortunately when working with clay some pieces do break. We try our best to mitigate this problem but it is inevitable. If your work hasn’t made it out of the kiln we will reimburse you. When you arrive please ring the doorbell/call the number on the gate for someone to let you in. Please prepare your collection email, and inform staff your Initials and the dates you attended the class. If you cannot make these times please send us an email and we can arrange another date and time for collection. If you have any questions please send us an email at nam@cernamic.com
  • When are courses and how do I book onto one?
We regularly update our courses page with the latest offerings, including short courses, intermediate courses, and youth classes. To be the first to hear about our courses, sign up to our mailing list below.
  • I am a current course student and would like to do a drop in. What should I do?
Please join the drop in group chat, which you will be able to find in the studio. All details and regulations related to drop in and drop in hours will be available in the group description.
  • I want to get into ceramics but I don't know where to start!
Our 2 hour taster or 3 hour taster sessions are great for anyone without any experience working with clay. Our 2 hour tasters focus on throwing (using a wheel). Meanwhile, our 3 hour tasters are split between throwing and handbuilding practise. Once you've had a taster and would like to continue your ceramics journey, we recommend joining one of our beginner courses where you'll be introduced to the theory of making ceramics and developing your own practice.
  • What is a drop-in session and how do they work?
We provide drop-in sessions to current and past course students, where they can continue to develop their practise. Unfortunately at this moment we are not able to provide drop-in sessions for those who have not been in our course. Drop-in sessions are charged by the hour and clay can be purchased at the studio. Please ask your courses tutor or member staff for more information.
