Courses and lessons

I want to get into ceramics but I don't know where to start!


Our 2 or 3 hour taster sessions are great for anyone without any experience working with clay. In these classes we go over the basics of throwing in the first half of the lesson and the second half is dedicated to the traditonal forms of making with coiling and slab building. If you still more of ceramics after your taster session, we reccomend joining one of our 4 week or 6 week courses where these go further in depth with the techniques and we introduce you into glazing




Do I need to bring anything with me to my classes? What’s provided?


You don’t need to bring anything. We do recommend for everyone trim their nails and wear old clothing to prevent any unwanted stains. (Clay does come out of clothing) We have basic tools and aprons here, and for your 4/6 week course, we include a tool kit for you to take home.




How long are the Drop-In sessions? Any rules and how do I book?


Drop-ins are only for ex-students and are bookable via email, text or instagram: nam@cernamic.com, 07985138854 & cernamic. Sessions are 5h long . Drop-ins are recommneded to provide their own glazes as the studio’s can only provide a limited selection due to majority of glazes being reserved for classes and members. Drop-ins can purchase buff clay from us and we go off a weigh and pay system (price is dependent on the clay you are using) £2 per kg. Please be respectful of the space and people in our studio and remember to keep your area clean and tidy :)




I forgot to pick up my pots from my taster sessions, what do I do?


We recommend you collect your finished work as soon as possible 2 weeks after your course has finished helping keep our storage area clear therefore avoiding damage. If finished ceramic work is not collected within 2 weeks of the end of the course we will sadly have to dispose of it due to work constantly being produced and causing storage issues. However, please do drop us an email (nam@cernamic.com) and we can double-check this with you.




How do I get onto a Cernamic course?


Courses are regularly updated and are available on our website via our “Book Now” tab. We use PayPal to take our transactions to help protect both students booking and ourselves.




If I miss a class can I come in another day?


Unfortunately, you cannot make up classes that you miss on another day. This is because all of our courses tend to be full and it is too tricky to balance people moving around. If you miss one lesson on your course, you should be able to catch up the following week but we do not recommend this. We recommend that you only take a course if you can commit to doing all but one of the dates.




Can I book a class for someone else?


Yes, you can book a class for someone else. Please just enter the name and email of the person who will be attending when you sign up. If it’s a gift and you haven’t given it yet, please use your own email when signing up and the let us know at what point it will be okay for us to contact them without giving the game away.




When can I collect my pots and how do I know when to collect them?


You will get an email confirmation stating that you pots are ready to be collected approx 2 weeks after your lesson. When you do decied when to collect them please give us notice on when you are coming to collect them. nam@cernamic.com or call/text 07985138854

Are you taking on any new members?


Unfortunately, we are not taking on any new members at this point and in the process of downscaling to provide more workspace.

Where is Cernamic's located? How do I get here?


We are based a 5 minute walk away from Stoke Newington Station. When you arrive at the black gates give us a call on 07985138854 and we will be able to let you in. Does Cernamic do discounts?


We currently have a discount for Goldsmiths Students and Alumni that is 15% off all our courses. To enquire please contact us with proof or let us know who recommended you!




What is your exchange & cancellation policy?


Cancellations must be made in writing by email or text.
Cancellations within 7 days of the start date will be charged 50% of the course fee.
Exchanges within 7 days within our discretion, due to your original booking blocks out slot/s, preventing others from booking that chosen date. In case of emergencies or unavoidable circumstances, we can negotiate to rearrange the workshop to the next available start date. If the participant fails to attend the course the full course fees are payable. Under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 (“Distance Selling Regulations“), you may cancel your purchase of a course within a period of 7 working days beginning on the day after we send your booking confirmation. However, there is no right of cancellation where the course begins within this seven day period.




Do you do gift vouchers?


Unfortunately, we currently do not provide gift vouchers.

Can I hire a kiln?


Yes of course! Our kiln sizes and prices are located at the bottom of the FAQs or near the bottom of our BOOK NOW page. Please email us with the subject title KILN HIRE with the following: What kiln you'd like to hire? When would you like to hire out the kiln for? Please contact us with at least a week in adavance. Anything less than 7 days notice will be subjected as rush kiln firing consequently will be charged £50 more from the day of booking or enquiry.
