Dalston Nerikomi Handbuilding
Layer, slice & reveal — discover the art of Japanese Nerikomi pottery
Descripción del servicio
Step into the mesmerising world of Nerikomi, a traditional Japanese pottery technique where layers of coloured clay are stacked, sliced and shaped to create intricate patterns throughout the clay. In this one-day, hands-on workshop, you’ll explore two pattern-making techniques — geometric and kaleidoscopic designs — while learning traditional hand-building techniques including coiling, slab building and pinch pots. 1. Geometry Patterns Build and arrange coloured clay to create structured geometric designs. 2. Kaleidoscopic Patterns Experiment with repetition, symmetry and slicing to reveal mesmerising patterns within the clay. You’ll then use your patterned clay to create your own unique piece. Whether you’re new to Nerikomi or already have pottery experience, this is a chance to experiment with colour, pattern and form while developing your own creative approach. £150 per person — all materials and firing included. The Day: 10am–5pm 6 hours of making + 1-hour lunch break 🎄 Christmas collection notice: Any pieces created on 20 December will not be ready for collection before Christmas. Please note that the 4-week turnaround time does not include our studio Christmas closure, so these pieces will be ready to collect in the New Year. 🍷 BYOB — Bring your own drinks and snacks and enjoy a relaxed, creative day with us. Please wear old clothing and have trimmed nails, as you’ll be getting stuck into the clay! Please note Clay is a natural material and every piece is unique. Results may vary due to the nature of clay and the firing process. Glaze colours and textures may differ from examples, and pieces will shrink by approximately 15% during firing. Small imperfections may occur, and in rare cases pieces may crack or break during firing. We do our best to minimise these risks, but they are an inherent part of working with clay. The class is non-refundable, although we can reimburse you if your work is damaged or explodes during firing. Collection & delivery: Your finished piece can be collected once fired, or £15 delivery can be arranged and paid for at the end of the class.
