In this two-day intensive workshop, you’ll begin with wedging before learning how to throw off the hump step by step. This class is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. With guidance from an experienced instructor, you’ll make functional pieces such as tea cups, small bowls, and tumblers. Throwing off the hump is a traditional wheel-throwing technique used across Asia. Instead of centering small balls of clay one by one, a single large mound (“hump”) is centered on the wheel, and several small pieces are thrown from it. This method is more efficient and helps reduce distortion, especially when making smaller forms. -They are no added costs- all clay, glazes, and firings are included in the course price -Please prepare for the class by cutting your nails short, wearing clothes you don't mind getting dirty (clay does come out easily in the wash), and bringing a tea towel and a plastic bag Unfortunately, we are not able to reschedule a makeup lesson unless it is an emergency. If you know in advance that you will be unable to attend a class, please contact us via email. We will do our best to place you in an appropriate class on another course. Each student is entitled to one free makeup class, which can be arranged via email. If you know you will miss a class, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate you as best as possible.
