This course is perfect for beginners who want to explore the traditional art of handbuilding; you will learn how to make handmade pieces with fundamental techniques like Coiling, Pinching, and Slab Building. Handbuilding is a incredibly relaxing and cathartic form of pottery and is used as a vessel for self expression. A quick outline of the course: -Week 1: Students will learn how to make a bowl and a mug using the pinching and coiling techniques. They will also learn different ways of making and attaching a handle. -Week 2: We will start with a demonstration of slabbing technique, including how to make lids, and later on introduce the techniques of creating decorative imprints and carvings on slabs. Students will be encouraged to explore the techniques and make at their own pace. -Week 3: We will expand on what we have learned so far by combining techniques. This session gives students time to be autonomous and self directed in their practise. -Week 4: Glazing and finishing up your work. You will be able to try out a variety of decorating and glazing techniques on your bisque-fired objects. Note - Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Class will start at 3pm and will run for 2 and a half hours. Your final pieces will be ready to pick up about 2 weeks after your last class. We will send you an email letting you know when they are ready to pick up :)
